Description:

This is a late 1944 dated WWII British Enfield No 4 MK 1(T) sniper rifle with the scope, mount and metal scope storage can. These rifles were developed in the late 1930s and were the standard WWII British sniper rifle, which was used until the early 1960s. There were approximately 26,000 of this model made in total with most of these being imported in the 1960s by Interarms. The side of the receiver is marked "No. 4 Mk. I/T" and the buttsocket is marked "M47C/1944/G33082/TR". The rifle is fitted with a blade front sight and adjustable tangent military rear sight. It has the wartime semi-pistol grip stock, that is fitted with a wooden cheekpiece on top of the comb and a full-length forestock and two top handguards. The underside of the buttstock marked "S51" indicating conversion at Holland and Holland along with the correct British acceptance proofs on the forend with the top of the stock stamped with scope number "16633". It is fitted with a No 32 MK3 scope that is marked "TEL. SIGHTING/No. 32 Mk.3/O.S. 2039A/No 16633". The mount has a "N92" makers mark on the front end and is numbered G33082 on the upper rear corner. The scope rings are stamped on the top and bottom half, respectively "R323" and "R324". This sniper rifle is complete with one original box magazine, a set of original leather scope caps that are stamped with a British "broad arrow stamp/1944" and a No 8 metal scope can. The can is numbered on the outside in white paint, "G 33082". Inside the lid of the scope can is a second label that is marked "Rifle No. G 33082/Telescope No. 16633". The rifle comes with a WWII US Army type unmarked canvas sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of its wartime British black painted finish overall with minor edge and high spot wear. The stock, forend and handguards are all in very fine plus condition showing only minor handling marks and scratches on the sides. The markings and proofs are all sharp and clear. The scope and mount retains 90% of its original wartime black finish overall with finish loss on the front end of the scope tube. The windage and elevation knobs moves freely with the elevation knob being a little tight and the scope has clear sharp optics with an intact reticle. The metal scope can retains 80% of its green painted exterior finish overall showing some areas of arsenal repaint at some point. The leather carrying strap is also in very good condition. A very nice original sniper rig with all matching numbers on the various parts and components.
