This exceptionally rare stainless steel barreled Winchester Model 1895 Sporting Rifle was manufactured in 1924 and chambered for the potent .405 W.C.F. cartridge. The stainless steel barrel has the original and distinctive black "Japan" finish. The balance of the rifle has blue finish. The stock and forearm are varnished walnut. The stock has a shotgun style checkered hard rubber buttplate with Winchester logo and the forearm tip is without provisions for an ebony inlay. The Lyman front sight has a brass bead. The rear sight is adjustable for elevation. The left side of the barrel is roll stamped "MADE IN U.S.A. -STAINLESS STEEL - 405 W.C.F." Winchester oval "W/P" proofmarks are stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The elongated two-line Winchester legend and patent dates are roll-stamped on the left side of the receiver. "MODEL 95/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG.U.S.PAT.OFF & FGN." is roll stamped in three lines on the upper receiver tang and the serial number is stamped on the lower tang. A stainless steel barrel is one of the rarest features found on any model of Winchester rifle. A Model 1895 Rifle with a stainless steel barrel chambered for the desirable 405 W.C.F. cartridge is an extremely rare combination.

Very fine. The barrel retains 90% of the original Japan black finish with loss at the muzzle. The remaining metal surfaces retain 70% original blue finish with the balance a mix of smooth brown and gray patina. The wood is excellent with some very scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Writer cannot recall ever seeing another one of these!
