This revolver has level C American scrollwork engraving and was manufactured in 1977. It is marked "COLT ENG" on the left side of the front strap and has the standard markings among the engraving patterns. The grips are stag and are bonded to a wood spacer (screwless "one piece" design). It comes in a Colt burnt-orange leatherette case with French fitted interior and a pair of hard rubber grips with matching serial numbers scratches on the inside. 60% of the .45 caliber factory engraved SAAs manufactured between 1976-1986 were in this configuration (P-1870) per Don Wilkerson's survey.
