Description:

Manufactured in 1903. Features a special order half octagon barrel, 1/2 magazine tube, takedown and shotgun butt. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two-line address/patent date, the left rear upper flat is marked with the two line nickel steel/smokeless powder marking and "30 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang marking is covered by a short-range peep sight. The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. Dovetailed brass blade front and adjustable buckhorn rear sights. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever. Mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a sling stud mounted on the steel end cap, hard rubber Winchester grip cap, smooth shotgun buttplate and sling stud on the stock toe. The accompanying factory letter verifies the takedown rifle configuration, caliber, 1/2 octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered stock with pistol grip, 1/2 magazine, shotgun butt, that it was received in the warehouse on May 14, 1903, and shipped to order number 183988 on June 5, 1903. The rifle's serial number dates to 1898 in the antique serial number range. A Cody Museum Records Office Sheet verifies the same information.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle retains 80% original blue finish with some muzzle and edge wear, and some thinning on the underside of the receiver and takedown ring and on the upper rear edges of the receiver, and a few minor scratches. There are two non-factory drilled and tapped holes on the upper left rear of the receiver. Almost all of the vivid original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is fine with some finish loss on the forearm, a few scattered minor dents and scratches and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
