Fine Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action 44-40 Rifle

This Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle was manufactured in 1884. The two-line address/King's improvement patent dates are marked on the top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight with "44 CAL" at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL. 1873." The serial is marked on the lower tang, and the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "44 CAL." German silver blade front sight and adjustable buckhorn sporting rear sight. Blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever, forend cap and buttplate and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a metal forend cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included). The rifle is accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum Records Office sheet verifying rifle configuration, octagon barrel, 44 caliber, plain trigger, that it was received in on August 21, 1884, and shipped to order number 14727 on August 25, 1884.

ConditionFine. The rifle retains 60% thinning original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the magazine tube, edge wear on the barrel and receiver, some areas of brown patina and some scattered minor oxidation/pitting. The casehardened components have a smooth, mottled gray patina. The wood is also fine with some scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
