Description:

14,495 Merrill carbines were manufactured during the Civil War. This is example has the first type stock with distinctive brass patch box but also has the second type copper head on the plunger. It has the standard markings and sights.

Rating Definition:

Good. The carbine displays aged patina on the brass and a blend of brown and gray on the iron. There are spot of light pitting and minor oxidation. The re-oiled stock has chipping on the edges of the flats, minor scrapes, and small dings. It is mechanically fine and has crisp markings.
