Collector's Lot of Two U.S. Light Cavalry Swords

1) U.S. Emerson & Silver Model 1850 Light Cavalry Sword with Scabbard. 40 1/2 inches overall, with a 34 3/4 inch double fuller blade marked "US/JM/1864" on the right ricasso and "EMERSON/&/SILVER/TRENTON/NJ" on the left. Fitted with a two-branch brass guard, helmet pommel, and a wire wrapped leather grip, with the "JM" proof repeated on the pommel. With a "JM" inspected iron scabbard. 2) Civil War Era U.S. Ames Model 1860 Light Cavalry Sword with Scabbard. Measuring 40 1/2 inches overall, with a 34 3/4 inch double fuller blade, marked "U.S./D.R/1863." on the right ricasso and "AMES MF'G CO/CHICOPEE/MASS" on the left. Brass hilt, with a 2-branch guard stamped "155", helmet pommel stamped "155" and "D.R", and a wire wrapped leather grip. With an unmarked iron and brass scabbard, most likely of Confederate origin.

Condition1) Good. The blade shows a mixed gray patina, with some mild spotting, some small areas of pitting, and some fading of the markings. The brass shows a dark, antique color with a few bright areas and edges, with mild wear on the grip. A mixed brown and gray patina is present on the scabbard, with patches of spotting. 2) Fine. The blade shows a mixed gray patina, with scattered spotting and a number of nicks along the edge, while the hilt shows a mixed aged patina, with the top of the guard especially dark and evidence of mild cleaning on the branches and pommel, as well as some wear and loss of the leather. The scabbard is a crude replacement, likely from period of use, with a dark patina, pitting, and wear.
