Description:

This rifle is incredibly trim and may have been built for a lady or young boy. It has simple blade and notch sights, brass furniture, and a curly maple stock with low comb, roughly 3 inch drop at the heel, 12 1/4 inch length of pull, shallow cheekpiece, beautifully detailed silver eagle inlay on the left, simple molding designs along the forend, silver thumb plate, and attractive flame and burl figure. The lock is marked "HENRY PARKER/Warranted" and has floral patterns and a bird scene. The engraved patch box and side plate have stylish floral, scroll, and line patterns. The exact maker has not been confirmed but is likely one of the Samuel Smiths active in Pennsylvania in the mid-19th century. Another Samuel Smith rifle appears to have the exact same trigger group and trigger guard and very similar stock architecture but is sized appropriately for an adult man.

Rating Definition:

Very good with dark brown patina and hints of blue tones on the barrel, lighter gray and brown patina on the lock, aged patina on the brass, some flash pitting at the breech, and some scattered oxidation, dings, and minor scratches. The stock is also very good and has some flash wear, minor cracking at the breech, and a repair at the toe. The lock functions fine, but the set trigger does not function. The markings are legible.
