Pair of Engraved German Percussion Target Pistols by Bart. Jos. Kuchenreuter of Regensburg

A) Kuchenreuter Pistol

These pistols were manufactured by Bartolomaeus Joseph Kuchenreuter of Regensburg, Germany. This style was common in the mid-19th century, but Kuchenreuter was also active as early as the 1820s. Both pistols have "BARTH. JOS. KUCHENREUTER IN REGENSBURG" inlaid in silver on the top of their barrels. The undersides have "GUSSSTAHL" and "GH". The locks are unmarked and have Germanic oak leaf engraving as does the rest of the steel furniture. The barrels are turned down at the muzzles for using a starter and have dovetailed blade front sights. The rear sights are at the upper tang and are elevation adjustable using a screw. The stock have fluted grips and Schnabel tips. They are numbered "1" and "2" on the silver inlays on the upper wrists.

ConditionVery good. The metal surfaces have gray patina, oxidation, and mild pitting. The wood is fine and has some small dings and scratches throughout. The lock and set trigger need work. Neither lock up properly, and the sear may need replaced or repaired.
