Description:

This unusual revolver is inscribed "E. LEFAUCHEUX/IN BREVETE" indicating the revolver was manufactured by Eugene Lefaucheux, son of Casimir Lefaucheux, the inventor of the pinfire cartridge in 1836. The outer chambers on the cylinder, back strap and frame have a scroll engraving while the outer edge of the recoil shield and loading gate have a wavy line and dot motif. The serial number and a "crown/V" proof are marked on the left barrel lug. The grips are checkered, and a lanyard stud and ring are fitted to the butt. The Lefaucheux cartridges, handguns, and long guns were important steps in the evolution of modern metallic cartridges. This revolver design is one of several mid-19th century attempts at high capacity handguns.

Rating Definition:

Good. The revolver has a mottled gray patina. The engraving is crisp. The undersize grips are fair with some blemishes and wear in the checkering. Mechanically excellent.
