Description:

Measuring 38 inches overall, the 27 1/8 inch blade shows a wavy hamon, fine grain, and is fitted in a gilt copper habaki. The fittings are of military pattern, with untranslated 2-figure signatures on the tsuba and seppa (3 on each side, mixed materials), a blue and brown tassel and brown cord wrap over the cherry blossom menuki. A small silver mon plaque is present on the square iron tsuba is decorated with a crossed feather pattern (associated with multiple clans). The military-pattern metal saya is wrapped with leather, with a single tachi-style suspension ring. The right side of the tang bears a two-symbol signature, possibly "Kiyomune", a surname shared by a number of recorded swordsmiths.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The blade shows a few edge nicks, along with some rubbing on the left side and mild spotting, with the hamon strong and well defined. The furniture is fine with a small amount of play in the tsuba and light handling marks. The saya is good, with a section removed from the leather cover to accommodate a second suspension ring and mild scuffing.
