Description:

Produced in limited quantities at the turn of the 20th century, the Webley-Fosbery uses a novel recoil driven operating system. The pistol is divided into two main components; an upper frame carrying the barrel, cylinder, and the hammer is mated to the lower grip frame and single action trigger and disconnector assembly on a spring loaded track. On discharge the recoil energy drives the entire upper frame back along the track recocking the hammer and advancing the cylinder. While this mechanism combines many of the positive features of both a revolver and an automatic pistol, it did not catch on, and the revolver was supplanted by the automatic as the primary sidearm of the military, police and civilians. Blade front and notch rear sights, with "WEBLEY FOSBERY" on the left side of the top strap and "455 CORDITE" next to the "winged bullet" trademark on the left side plate of the lower frame. The top strap is marked "WILKINSON GUNMAKERS PALL MALL LONDON. S.W." The Wilkinson inventory number "4165" is on the underside of the trigger guard. While Wilkinson had stopped producing firearms, they continued to sell, and Webley revolvers were popular items. While no research has been done, the Wilkinson archives may still contain information on the original purchaser. The hammer is checkered on three sides, with Birmingham proofs on multiple components, a safety switch on the left side of the lower frame, a pair of checkered grips and a lanyard swivel on the butt. Included with the pistol is a hardwood case with a blank inscription shield on the lid, a Wilkinson paper label inside the lid, two cleaning rods, an oiler, and a cartridge block containing 24 rounds of Kynoch Mark II ammunition.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 70% of the original blue finish showing areas of mixed brown and gray patina, bright edge wear and scattered handling marks. The grips are very good with the right panel broken and repaired and the left showing some dents and flat spots. The case is fine as a modern production item with mild stains and wear. The safety needs adjustment, otherwise mechanically fine.
