Manufactured in 1950, this pistol follows the 1911A1-style pattern overall, with the exception of the stag grip panels. These panels, along with the serial number of the pistol, are mentioned specifically in a 1991 dated note signed by Brigadier General (ret) Harold H. Dunwoody, an impromptu bill of sale of the pistol and its holster from himself to the consignor, which is included along with a set of service records, news clippings relevant to the General's family, and an autographed portrait of the General. Born in Paris in 1919 and raised in Missouri, Dunwoody came from a long line of American soldiers stretching clear back to the Revolution, and after a brief stint as an enlisted infantryman, he attended and graduated West Point, earning his 2nd Lieutenant's bar in 1943. Joining the Tank Corps, he went to Europe with the 47th Tank Battalion and the 14th Armored Division where he was, in his own words, "blown out of a tank in Alsace-Lorraine on the Siegfried Line" during the advance on Germany. Returning to the States, he underwent further education at the Armor School in Fort Knox before being deployed to Korea where he earned a second Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross. Following Korea, much of his time was spent alternating between Europe and America, serving in important staff roles at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and in Washington D.C., before returning to the field in Vietnam commanding a Mechanized Infantry Brigade and Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Plans & Security. During his service in multiple foreign wars, he earned the Distinguished Service Cross and Medal, Silver Star, Bronze Star (w/V device and oak leaf cluster), the Air Medal (x3), and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and between wars was educated at the Command & General Staff College, the National War College and the Advance Management Program at Harvard University. Finishing his career as a Deputy with the Inspector General's Office, Dunwoody retired in 1973 after 31 years of service. Continuing the tradition of his forefathers, Dunwoody had multiple children enter the Army, including General Anne E. Dunwoody, America's first female 4-star General. In addition to the information on General Dunwoody, the lot includes an unmarked black leather General Officer-style holster, a 1962 dated U.S. Rockwelt(sic) magazine pouch, a red cloth Brigadier General's pennant, red finished metal BG vehicle plate, and a weather-resistant pistol pouch hand-marked to the General.

Very fine, with 75% of the original blue finish, showing areas of gray patina on the grip straps, bright edge wear, light scratches, and some takedown lines. The grip are fine period replacements and a fine fit to the pistol. The accessories are all in very good shape with some mild wear on the leather. Mechanically excellent.
