Description:

This is an excellent example of a cased model 6A example of a Colt Root percussion revolver. The barrel has the two-line address, the frame has "31 CAL" marked vertically on the left side, and the cylinder has the Cabin and Indian scene and is marked "COLT'S PATENT/No. 9109." Matching numbers are found on the barrel, cylinder and butt. Fitted with a smooth, varnished grip. The partitioned case is lined in velvet and contains a sealed package of combustible envelope cartridges, single face Colt's patent eagle powder flask, case key, "COLT'S PATENT" marked two-cavity bullet mold, two combination tools and Eley Brothers cap tin.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% bright original high polish blue finish showing some thinning to a gray. Tool marks are present on top of the back strap behind the cylinder pin. The cylinder scene is faint, due to weak roll, with 90% original blue. The front sight is missing. The hammer and loading lever retain 95% original case colors. The grip is fine showing a large pressure dent (right side), a repaired chip (left side) and some minor handling marks with most of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with loose hinges, a crack on the lid, moderate high spot wear on the original lining and minor handling/storage marks.
