Produced mainly in Belgium, the term "Brevete" can be applied to any revolver made in Europe under license by Colt using one or more of their patents. The top barrel flat is marked "COLT / BREVETE" at the breech and a "crown / C" proof on the left flat. The cylinder is roll engraved with a hunting scene (a horseman and a dog chasing a flying duck) and marked with the Liege "ELG" in an oval proof on the rear. Serial number marked only on the frame with "JF" on the trigger guard. Brass post front sight and hammer notch rear sight, silver plated brass square trigger guard and back strap, percussion shield cut-out without the capping groove and fitted with a one piece smooth.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 90% of the original high polished blue finish with light edge wear and some minor handling marks. The cylinder retains 80% of the original blue with sharp and crisp engraving showing some minor handling marks. The loading lever and frame retain slight trace of case color mixed with smooth gray patina. There is some light-moderate pinprick pitting on the loading lever. The brass has been polished at one time and is now beginning to age again. The excellent grips exhibit some minor handling marks. Formerly from the Will Hoffeld collection; purchased from E. Parson in August 1961.
