This is a high quality period Belgian Colt Brevete Model 1851 revolver. The rear of the cylinder is marked with a Liege "E/LG" with star proofmark and circled "D" proofmark. The cylinder has a deeply cut stagecoach holdup scene and is marked in script "colt's patent." The top barrel flat is marked "COLT/BREVETE" at the breech. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, barrel and trigger guard. Blue barrel and cylinder, casehardened hammer, loading lever and frame and silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap. Fitted with a varnished one-piece grip.
Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 60% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. Nearly all of the cylinder scene remains. The loading lever, hammer and frame retain 40% faded original case colors. The grip straps have an attractive patina. A collector's number in black vinyl is on the butt. The grip is also fine showing a series of pressure dents on the bottom and a number of minor scratches with most of the finish remaining. Mechanically excellent.
