Description:

These knuckle duster revolvers were designed by Frenchman Louis Dolne in the late 1860s and combine three fearsome weapons: a revolver, brass knuckles, and a kriss style dagger. This example is chambered for pinfire ammunition has "L. DOLNE INVUR" and the serial number on the right side of the frame at the front, small proofmarks throughout , "FN" on the front of the frame, a 2 5/8 inch blade, and spurless hammer. There are no sights since these were meant to be used at close range and would have been inaccurate past a few feet. They were popular with the French criminal gangs of the late 19th century and early 20th century and earned themselves the nickname "Apaches" after one of the most well-known French gangs. These weapons were perfect for the smash and grab and quick hold-ups often employed in the streets of Paris and other cities. The guns were likely scarcely actually fired but served as a legitimate threat to guarantee compliance with demands.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The cylinder and small parts retain 50% plus of the original blue finish with the balance a brown patina. The frame has an attractive aged patina. It is mechanically fine and has mostly crisp markings. These Apache's are seldom encountered in this fine condition!
