This is a very fine example of a rare Mannlicher "Short" Model 1905 self-loading pistol. These could be technically called their "compact" model as they used a shortened/reduced frame and upper receiver/barrel area that functioned and operated exactly like the large Model 1905 pistol. It has the same markings of the larger model with the left side marked "WAFFENFABRIK/STEYR" and the right marked "SYSTEM/MANNLICHER." It has the fixed blade front sight, and the "V" notch rear sight is machined into the very rear of the slide between the serrated areas. It is numbered "1865" on the underside of the frame extension, left side of the barrel and chamber. It is fitted with serrated walnut grips.
Very fine with 95% of the original blue finish overall and only edge and high spot wear overall. The grips are in very good condition with a nice, distinct serrations on both sides showing minor handling marks and light pressure dents overall. Mechanically functions intermittently as the slide does not always release after magazine follower is depressed and hammer retracted. This is a very scarce and desirable short Model 1905 Mannlicher self-loading pistol that is rarely seen for sale.
