Description:

This is an excellent example of a early all blued Colt Model 1911A1 service pistol as manufactured in 1941 and inspected by the U.S. Ordnance inspector Colonel Robert Sears. This series of Colt 1911A1 pistol was the last version to use the Colt all brushed blue finish prior to WWII. In early 1941 Colt was approved to change their blue finish to the new and more durable "parkerize " type finish which became the standard wartime finish at approximately serial number "734000". These early pistol are very rare to find in this condition as they saw early, hard service use during WWII with almost all of the them being overhauled and reparkerized after the war. These Sears inspected Colt 1911A1's were produced in the serial number range of 723000-750300. The left side of the frame is marked with the boxed "R.S." inspection marking of Col. Robert Sears, with "P" proof below the magazine catch. The top rear section of the frame by the disconnect hole is also stamped with a small boxed "R.S." inspector mark along with a capital "G" indicting this frame was identified as for a Government contract. The right side is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No731229/M1911A1 U.S ARMY". The left side of the slide has the standard two line/two block Colt patent and address markings with the Colt Rampant Horse logo in the middle. The top of the slide has single "P" proof in front of the rear sight and it is correctly serial numbered "731/229" under the firing pin stop. It is fitted with the standard fixed front and rear sights. It is fitted with the correct early all blued barrel that is marked on the left side of the lug with a "P" proof and "COLT 45 AUTO" on the lower side of the chamber area. It has all the correct early blued components such as the checkered wide spur hammer, checkered slide release and thumb safety, milled trigger with the checkered face, arched and checkered mainspring housing. The frame is fitted with a set of brown plastic Colt grips with the hollow backs with small reinforcing rings around the screw holes. Complete with a two-tone magazine marked with a "B" on the lip of the base. It comes with a collector's style cardboard Colt shipping box with the top of the lid stamped with the matching serial number.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear with some very light thinning on the edges of the mainspring housing with a hint of thinning on the front grip strap. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice sharp, distinct checkering overall showing some minor wear/nicks on the tops of the checkering. An excellent high condition early World War II all blued Colt Model 1911A1 Semi-Automatic pistol.
