This Model 1911A1 semi-automatic pistol was manufactured by Colt Firearms in early 1943 and was one of few pistols assembled by Colt for military contract using commercial parts that had been left over after commercial production ended for the war effort. The commercial frame has had the serial number and "GOVERNMENT MODEL" markings factory scrubbed and then over-stamped with the correct military contract serial number. The left side of the frame has the standard Colt inspection and proofs as well as the "G.H.D." inspection mark under the slide catch and a "P" below the magazine release. The slide is stamped with a "P" between the ejection port and rear sight. The underside of the slide and top of the frame have provisions for the Swartz safety (corresponding holes on the slide and frame). The Swartz safety components are correctly absent. The barrel is stamped with a single "P" on the let side of the lug and "COLT 45 AUTO" on the left side of the chamber. Fitted with checkered Coltwood grips with reinforcing ribs and reinforcing rings around the screws. Includes a pinned base blue commercial magazine marked "COLT/45 AUTO" on the base. The base has been parkerized to dull the finish.

Very fine with 85% plus original parkerized finish displaying areas of high point and edge wear, small dings, clear markings, and handling marks. The grips are excellent with handling marks and scattered dings. Mechanically excellent. A unique representative example of a Colt Commercial/Military Model 1911A1 semi-automatic pistol.
