Originally manufactured in 1892, this .45-70 caliber Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle currently features floral scroll engraving that incorporates detailed engraved game scenes on the sides of the receiver and deluxe-style stock. The receiver is signed "Joseph" (left side) and "Joseph Engr" (right side). Scrollwork also appears on the hammer and front of the lever. The top of the chamber has the engraved "DJM" initials. The top of the barrel has the two-line address and "45-70." The serial number and two-line patent information marking are on the lower tang. Fitted with blade front, sporting rear and tang sights. Nickel plated forend cap, polished hammer sides and the remaining metal surfaces are blue. Mounted with a highly figured checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with crescent buttplate.
Very fine as professionally custom embellished. The rifle retains 99% plus of the blue finish showing a few minor handling marks. The wood shows a barely noticeable chip missing near the lower tang, a few minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
