Manufactured in 1876 and subsequently engraved by Colt and Winchester Custom Shop Master Engraver Barry Lee Hands. The design of the engraving on this revolver is influenced by Nimschke and Helfricht. The barrel, frame, cylinder flats, trigger guard and back strap have a running scroll design with a punch dot background. The barrel address has a "nick and dot" border terminating with an entwining line pattern toward the front sight. The top of the frame features an crossed ribbon with scroll design. The upper forward left side of the frame, recoil shield and both sides of the hammer have a wolfs head, and the left rear of the frame has a dogs head. The top of the back strap features a triangular dot punched herringbone pattern with leaves superimposed on a feather pattern, and there is a geometric pattern on the butt. The revolver is signed "BARRY LEE HANDS" on the left rear of the barrel, "B/L/H" in the entwining pattern on top of the barrel, "HANDS" on the recoil shield under the wolf head and "COLT/BARRY LEE HANDS/ENGRAVER" in a ribbon on the butt. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line address, and the two-line, two patent dates are marked on the left side of the frame. The serial numbers match. Standard blade front and frame notch rear sights, "bullseye" ejector rod head, silver finish and fitted with a smooth one piece grip. The revolver is accompanied by a typed letter from Barry Lee Hands dated December 12, 1996, detailing the engraving on this revolver.
