Description:

The included factory letter confirms the rifle configuration, caliber, 26 inch octagon barrel, set trigger, casehardened frame and checkered deluxe walnut pistol grip stock. The rifle was received in the warehouse on December 17, 1885 and shipped the same date on order number 3106. Fitted with combination beech front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight and tang mounted long range peep sight. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address/patent information ahead of the rear sight and a non-factory "One of One Thousand" marking added at the breech. It is a third model with integral dust cover rib and dust cover with serrated edges. The brass cartridge elevator is factory marked "38 CAL." Mounted on a highly figured, checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with ebony insert on bottom of the pistol grip and crescent buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Very good as remarked (see above). The barrel and magazine retain 30% of the blue finish. There is a 1 1/2 inch long zig zag line scratched onto the magazine tube. The frame, lever and hammer retrain 40% silvered out case colors. There is some moderate pitting on the buttplate which has a smooth dark patina. The wood is fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches and some blemishes in the checkering. Mechanically excellent.
