Collector's Lot of Two Bacon Manufacturing Pocket Model Single Action Percussion Revolvers

A) Bacon Pocket Model Revolver

Manufactured circa 1858-67, this is 1 of approximately 3,000 Second Model revolvers manufactured with an unengraved fluted cylinder and round barrel. One line address on top of the barrel, matching serial numbers on the grip frame and barrel, standard scroll engraving on the frame and fitted with smooth walnut grips.

ConditionVery good. The barrel retains 60% original blue finish with some muzzle wear and areas thinning to a smooth plum patina. There are strong traces of original blue finish in the cylinder flutes with a smooth mottled gray patina on the balance. The frame has a smooth gray patina. The loading lever shows 60% bright original case colors. The grips are also very good with almost all of the varnish remaining, and showing some lower edge wear, and some scattered minor nicks and dings. The action is excellent.

B) Unmarked Bacon Manufacturing Co. Serial Number 1 Pocket Model Revolver

Manufactured circa 1858-67. This is an unmarked First Model variation serial number 1, with the octagon barrel, unfluted cylinder with the five panel roll engraving sporting scenes, standard floral scroll engraving on the frame, serial number "1" marked on the grip frame and bottom barrel flat, and fitted with walnut grips. It is estimated that less than 1,000 First Models were made.

ConditionVery good. The barrel retains 30T% thin original blue finish with a smooth plum patina on the balance. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. The grips are ill-fitting, most noticeably on the upper edge at the front strap. Overall there is some lower edge wear, and scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The engraving is crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
