Winchester Model 1876 Deluxe Sporting Rifle with special order features. The rifle is accompanied by a Winchester Factory Letter that states this rifle, serial number, "37982", was shipped from the Winchester warehouse on August 12, 1884, as Order Number 14019 and was equipped with an octagon barrel, set trigger, checkered stock with pistol grip, half-magazine, casehardened receiver and shotgun buttplate. The combination of full octagon barrel and half-magazine is a particularly rare combination on Model 1876 rifles. The rifle is fitted with a nickel-silver "knife blade" front sight and a folding adjustable rear sight. The barrel is blued and the forend cap, receiver, loading lever, hammer and buttplate have a color casehardened finish. The checkered stock and forearm are fancy grade walnut with a varnished finish. The pistol grip has an ebony inlay. The third pattern receiver has an integral dust cover guide and is roll-stamped: "{ MODEL. 1876. }" in fancy script on the upper receiver tang. The serial number, "37982" is stamped horizontally on the lower receiver tang between the loading lever catch and the lower tang screw. The caliber, "45-60" is engraved on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped: "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860.". In two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber, "45-60" is stamped on the top barrel flat between the rear sight and the receiver.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle retains 70% of the slightly faded original blue. The receiver has 70% of the original casehardened finish with strong case colors. There is scattered age discoloration on the top and sides of the receiver. The dust cover shows the most handling wear and retains about 70% of the original finish with the balance a dove-gray patina. The niter blue finish on the trigger and loading gate is faded. The screws are in excellent condition. The address and caliber markings are crisp. The buttplate has heavy pitting with a silver-gray patina. The fancy walnut stock and forearm are in very fine-excellent condition. The finely cut checkering is crisp with 90% of the original varnish finish. Wear is limited to some minor dents on the stock; the most significant dents are located on the lower left side of the stock just above the buttplate. This is a very fine and scarce example of a highly desirable and completely original Winchester Model 1876 Deluxe Lever Action rifle with fully documented special order features.
