Colt London Model 1849 Pocket revolver with factory case manufactured in 1855. This Fifth Model revolver has a large oval trigger guard and loading cut-out without beveled edges. The trigger guard and back strap are brass with a silver-plated finish. The 5-inch barrel has a brass cone front sight. The screws have the distinctive round heads found on London Colt revolvers. The hammer has the borderless knurling found on Hartford Colt revolvers. The five-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and "COLT'S PATENT." The top barrel flat is roll-stamped: "{ADDRESS. COL: COLT./ LONDON.}" in two lines. "COLTS/PATENT" is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame. London "Crown/CP" and "Crown/P" inspection and proof marks are stamped on the left side of the barrel lug and between each cylinder chamber. The full serial number, "8154," is stamped: on the loading lever, barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. The barrel and cylinder have a high polish blue finish, and the hammer, lever and frame are casehardened with vivid case colors. The one-piece grip is nicely figured walnut with a high polish piano finish. The revolver is contained in a mahogany case with scalloped brass plate inlaid in the lid. The case interior has five compartments lined with dark blue velvet. Colt directions for loading and cleaning the revolver are glued to the inside of the case lid. The case contains: (1) steel cleaning rod with turned wooden handle, (2) L-shaped combination nipple wrench/screwdriver, (3) blued, iron, straight leg, double cavity, bullet mold marked "COLT'S/PATENT" on the sprue cutter, (4) pewter oil bottle with Dixon markings on the bottom, (5) bag shaped Dixon powder flask with adjustable charger marked: "COLTS POCKET FLASK" on the top, (6) Eley 500 count percussion cap tin for Colt belt and pocket pistols with green paper label and (7) key.

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% plus of the original finish. The high polish blue finish has some scattered flaking on the sides and top of the barrel. The cylinder retains all of the roll-engraved holdup scene and has 90% of the blue finish. The percussion nipples show minimal flash pitting and the safety pins are battered but present. The frame and hammer have vivid case colors. The case colors on the hammer are muted, and there are traces of flash pitting on the right side. The trigger guard and back strap retain close to 90% of the silver-plated finish with some scattered age spotting and edge wear. The walnut grip is in excellent condition and has more than 95% of the high polish finish; wear is limited to a few very minor handling marks. The case exterior is fine and shows minimal handling wear. The case interior is very fine. The lining has not faded and wear is limited to a few compression marks. The directions for loading and cleaning are very good. The powder flask is excellent and retains 97% or more of the brown lacquer, gold plated and fire blue finish; wear is limited to one small dent in the flask body. The cleaning rod, combination tool, bullet mold and oil bottle are all very fine and show minimal wear. The cap tin is fine overall. This is a very fine example of a factory cased London Model 1849 Pocket revolver.
