Description:

This Colt London Model 1851 Navy revolver was manufactured in 1855. The revolver has the distinctive London Navy steel back strap and large oval trigger guard. The hammer spur is smooth. Hammers on London Navies are commonly found with standard knurling. The top of the barrel is roll-engraved "-ADDRESS COL. COLT LONDON-". The cylinder is roll-engraved with the naval battle scene. "COLTS/PATENT" is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame. London proof and inspection marks are stamped on the left side of the barrel lug ahead of the wedge slot and on each cylinder chamber. Matching numbers are found on the barrel, frame, grip straps, cylinder, loading lever, wedge and arbor pin. It has a post front sight, hammer notch sight, blue barrel, cylinder and grip straps, casehardened hammer, frame and loading lever and smooth one-piece varnished grip. The inside of the lid has a paper Colt loading directions label. The case contains lead rounds, a combination tool, "COLTS/PATENT" marked two-cavity bullet mold, oiler, Eley Brothers cap tin with caps and James Dixon & Sons plain bag shaped powder flask.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 85% bright original high polished blue finish showing some speckling of brown. The cylinder and grip straps have a mottled brown-gray patina with traces of original blue finish in the protected areas. Most of the cylinder scene remains. The frame, hammer and loading lever retain 40% original case colors. The grip is fine with a surface chip missing near the bottom, "Strickland" hand marked on the bottom and some minor handling marks. Most of the original varnish remains. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with some minor to moderate handling/storage marks. Most of the label remains.
