Manufactured during the Civil War for the commercial market. The top barrel flat is marked with the one-line New York U.S. America address. The left side of the frame has the "COLTS/PATENT" marking. Matching numbers are found on the barrel, frame, grip straps, cylinder, wedge and arbor pin. The loading lever is not numbered. The cylinder is engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and is marked "COLTS PATENT" above the partial matching serial number "610." The left side of the trigger guard is marked "36 CAL." It has small brass cone front and hammer notch sights, blue barrel and cylinder, silver plated grip straps and casehardened remaining parts. Fitted with a smooth one-piece varnished grip. The revolver comes in a partitioned green velvet lined case containing a package of combustible envelope cartridges, an Eley Brothers cap tin with caps, an unmarked two-cavity bullet mold and double face eagle powder flask.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 85% plus bright original high polished blue finish with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. Most of the cylinder scene remains with 25% original blue. The loading lever, hammer and frame retain 80% vivid original case colors. The grip straps retain 60% aged darkened original silver plating with the exposed brass having an even patina. The grip is also very fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches and retaining most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with a cracked lid, some wear to the original lining and minor handling/storage marks. The package of cartridges has a tape repair. The powder flask retains 70% original lacquer finish.
