Description:

This is an excellent example of a scarce late pre-war manufactured Colt Single Action Army revolver that was later assembled and sold after the end of WWII in the late 1940s. These pre-war/post-war revolvers have been thoroughly discussed in several of the Colt Single Action books, the most note worthy is by John Kopec and the other by Don Wilkerson. This post-war revolver was numbered in the pre-war serial range. This serial number is only 438 away from the last First Generation serial number. The selling of these pre-war revolvers during this time directly coincided with the restarting of the production line for the Second Generation Colt Single Action Army revolvers in the early 1950s. The revolver has the Colt high quality pre-war blue finish with the casehardened frame and loading gate. The top of the barrel has the one-line address "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.", and the left side of the barrel is marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45". The left side of the frame has the two-line, three-patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The Colt triangle "VP" proof on the upper left front side of the trigger guard with a single "F" proof on the rear. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, on the right side of the grip straps under the grip and on the inside of each grip panel. The matching assembly number "221" is marked on the right rear of the frame and on the loading gate. Fitted with the black hard rubber checkered grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. Both grip panels are numbered to the gun. There is a red label maker tag on the butt number "32". Comes with an original black hinged lid box with correct end label, test target, "Shooting Suggestions" pamphlet and bore brush. The same label maker number is on the lid flap. Additional information: the underside of the box is very faintly marked with serial number "357421".

Rating Definition:

Near new in box. The revolver retains 99% original blue and casehardened finish with some minor cylinder rotation marks and some light spotting on the frame. The grips are very fine with only light handling marks and very crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The box is good with the lid corners separated, some edge and corner wear on the exterior and some minor contact wear to the interior.
