Description:

This is an outstanding example of a custom sporting rifle built on a highly desirable World War II G33/40 Mauser action. G33/40 actions are highly prized due to being originally manufactured as a small ring, lightweight, K98 style rifle developed for WWII Alpine troops. This rifle is fitted with a part octagon barrel with matted full length rib featuring an integral ramp sight base. The underside of the barrel has a sling eyelet, and gold entwining lines occupy the space a the muzzle. The barrel is marked "MADE IN AUSTRIA" on the upper left flat and "B'O'HLER RASANT" on the left flat; all markings are near the breech. The rear section of the barrel has a light engraving with gold inlaid line and scroll accents. A variation of this pattern is repeated on the rear of the receiver. The rifle has a Zeiss 6x32 scope with a quick release mount and scope rings featuring relief engraved scrollwork and gold inlaid scroll borders. The scope mounts are attached to the breech of the barrel and on the receiver at the rear. The receiver has the "G.33/40" marking inside a fancy gold box on the left side wall, engraving with gold accents on top of the side wall and relief engraved scrollwork left in the white with gold inlaid borders on the ring. The top of the receiver ring has a large raised relief engraved gold moose head on a matte background inside a gold dot border. Other raised relief engraved animals in gold are featured on the floor plate (bear and elk) and trigger guard (wolf). The detailed work on the animals is beautifully executed with super detail. Besides the bear and elk, the floor plate has an engraved mountain scene, scrollwork and gold line and engraved dot borders. There is high relief engraved floral scrollwork in gold on the lower section of the floor plate and on the attaching metal. Additional gold floral scrollwork is featured on the trigger guard tang. Besides the wolf, the trigger guard exhibits an engraved woodland scene and gold borders. Cross hatching is engraved on the metal ahead of the trigger guard. The action has a polished follower, jeweled extractor and bolt, gold entwining lines on the bolt handle, checkered bolt handle knob and double set triggers. The rifle has been stocked with an extra fancy English walnut stock with beautiful grain throughout and fine multi-point checkering on the forearm and pistol grip. The stock has a contrasting forend tip, cheekpiece and skeletonized buttplate and grip cap (both with an engraving and gold accents to match the rest of the rifle) with the exposed wood being finely checkered. Consignor states this was engraved by Franz Martkl.

Rating Definition:

Excellent as professionally embellished. The rifle retains 99% plus of the blue finish showing the slightest handling marks. The stock is also excellent showing limited mild handling marks. The checkering is crisp. Mechanically excellent. The optics are clear. An awesome work of modern firearm art built on the Mauser G33/40 action that would that would make a fine addition to the most advanced sporting rifle collections.
