This is a very rare early Krieghoff production "S" code German Luger as manufactured in limited quantities for the Luftwaffe. This Luger is marked with the "S-Code" over the chamber which was the code indicating manufacture in 1936. The pistol is fitted with the very early B-2 die toggle markings of the "H (anchor) K" over "SUHL" with no Krieghoff name. This early variation was used on only the first 2,500 Krieghoff Lugers. It has the standard "S" code marking over the chamber. It has the full serial number (928) stamped on the front of the frame, the left side of the receiver, and breechblock. The barrel has the bore diameter and the very early 1st stage "Eagle/2" Luftwaffe acceptance proof but no serial number which is correct for this variation. The last two digits (28) of the serial number are stamped on the side plate, front and rear toggle assembly, trigger, take down lever, side plate and right grip panel. The left grips is stamped with serial number "25". The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the large "Eagle/2" Luftwaffe acceptance mark followed by the Luftwaffe test proof and small "Eagle/2" proof. The left side of the breechblock is marked with the Luftwaffe Eagle firing proof followed by the "Eagle/2" acceptance proof which is also stamped on the rear toggle. It is fitted with a later blued Mauser folded metal magazine with an aluminum base that is stamped: "7297/m/+/Eagle 63". In this "S" code variation only 4,000 total pistols were produced in total in 1936 with only 2,500 having these early features.
