Description:

Manufactured in 1952, the exact path this weapon took from the Soviet Union to the People's Republic of Vietnam is unknown, but included paperwork indicates that it wound up in the hands of a Sergeant Robert Farmer with the 2nd Battalion 7th Marines stationed in Da Nang in October of 1970; October 1970 represents the end of 2/7's time in Vietnam, with the 7th having seen action in a variety of named operations as well as the Tet Offensive, giving Sgt. Farmer numerous chances to take a souvenir. Post and tangent sights, with the arsenal marking and date on the receiver cover and matching serial numbers on the receiver, bolt carrier and trigger guard. Fitted with a smooth pistol grip stock and a tan canvas sling.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall, with about half of the blue finish, showing areas of mixed brown and gray patina, scattered shallow pitting, and general wear and tear appropriate to a well traveled combat weapon. The number "685578" has been cut into the left side of the receiver, significance unknown, the bayonet is nicked near the forearm collar and the stock shows some dents, scuffs and chips. The hold-open sticks a bit, otherwise mechanically fine.
