Description:

Constructed from green/gray gaberdine Italian cloth, integrating a fold-out ear protector with dual front buttons and a felt reinforced chinstrap, with a one-piece trapezoidal SS "eagle/totenkopf" patch on the front of the crown, and an alloy "edelweiss" badge secured to the left side of the earflaps with gray thread. The interior is lined in gray cloth, with a faint black ink "R4(illegible, possibly "3" or "5") over a "60" size marking. The SS markings are fairly self-explanatory, and the edelweiss is traditionally reserved for Gebirgsjaegers (mountain hunter). The Waffen-SS assembled six mountain divisions during World War II, which were primarily staffed by foreign volunteers in occupied territories.

Rating Definition:

Good overall, with a generally well-aged "salty" appearance, darkening from dirt on the exterior, a brighter and fresher color on the areas protected by the folds of the ear flaps, and sweat staining of the interior lining. The flap buttons are wearing bright on the front, and excluding a few small holes in the lining, the fabric and stitching is solid. A fine Waffen-SS Mountain Division enlisted cap
