Closely patterned after the mountain cap, the 1943 field cap retained the folding side flaps and included a longer visor. This example is constructed of gray gaberdine Italian cloth, with a line of white piping around the crown, a one-piece trapezoidal "eagle/totenkopf" SS patch on the front, and a pair of textured and silver painted alloy flap buttons. The interior is lined in gray rayon with a black ink "56" size marking and fitted with a brown leather forehead sweatband stamped "QUALITAT/MARKE" in the center.

Good overall, showing honest ageing, with the areas outside the folds of the earflaps showing wear and dirt exposure appropriate to age and the protected areas looking cleaner and fresher, especially on the inside of the flaps themselves. Mild sweat staining is present on the interior, with the leather remaining solid and supple. A very nice Waffen-SS Officer Model 1943 Field Cap.
