Fine Matching Tailored Uniform Set for a World War I American Army Pilot

The uniform consists of a green wool twill tunic and trousers; both bearing tags from Louis Scheeling of Oakland, California, that are hand signed to a "W.E. Taylor". The tunic tag is hand-dated "7-14-18" (July 14, 1918). Taylor has not been positively identified, but the fittings of the uniform tunic indicate he was a U.S. Army first lieutenant in the Air Corps with flight certification and a year of overseas service. This implies a posting abroad, likely in France, circa 1916/1917. There are two service stripes The collar badges are in "firebrand" style bronze. The beautifully sculpted and silver finished flight wing set with black felt background is on the left breast, a set of silver-plated rank bars are on the shoulder tabs, and a pair of silver bullion chevrons sharing a tan patch are on the left sleeve near the collar. The buttons are flat brass featuring the U.S. Army eagle and marked for Pasquale & Company of San Francisco. The trousers are of the "riding breech" style with black bakelite plastic buttons at the waist and fly, brown bakelite buttons around the ankles, and the aforementioned Scheeling tag on the backside of one of the pockets.

ConditionVery good, with some minor wear and staining overall.
