Description:

This is an fine example of a late WWII production U.S. Springfield Armory M1C sniper rifle with M82 telescopic sight, G&H mount, leather cheek piece and web sling. The M1C style sniper rifles were developed in mid-late 1944 and were used in by both the U.S. Army and USMC during WWII, Korea and even Vietnam. This late WWII rifle was refurbished for the Korean War, and it is currently has a mix of Springfield Armory marked parts with a Korean War era barrel marked "SA-9-51". It has a late type III rear sight. The parts are marked as follows: bolt is marked "D28287-18-SA", trigger housing marked "D28290-8-SA" with a milled trigger guard, and the operating rod is marked: "D35382-SA". The barrel is fitted with a post war, wide base gas cylinder, round top lock with a four slot gas plug. It has an all walnut stock and handguard set. The stock has been arsenal refurbished as it lacks a traditional inspector cartouche on the side (however it is probably has a rebuilt cartouche under the cheekpad), and it has a double circled "P" firing proof on the pistol grip area. The rear of the receiver is marked "SA-52" indicating it rebuilt in 1952, and it is fitted with a unnumbered Griffin & Howe scope base/bracket. This rifle comes with a an original WWII, all blued G&H mount that has the Griffin & Howe markings on top and is numbered "3349319" on the back side. The mount is fitted with an original WWII issue, all blue M82 telescopic sight. The M82 telescopic sight has the correct post reticle and is roll-stamped in three lines on the left side "TELESCOPE M82/SERIAL NO. 39309/STOCK NO. 84374". The telescope is complete with the rubber eyepiece, sliding sun shade and windage and elevation knob covers with part numbers on the top. The leather lace-on cheekpiece is correct Korean War issue version marked on the side "MRT/10-52". It is complete with a GI green web sling and a milled "M2/HART" marked original GI flash hider.

Rating Definition:

Exceptionally fine as arsenal rebuilt with 97% of the original GI refurbished green parkerized finish overall showing only minor wear on the right side receiver rail. The stock and handguards are all in very fine condition with only very minor handling marks in a couple areas and a matching dark brown color overall. The scope retains 97% of its original blue finish overall with only a small spot of brown patina on the left side of the tube below the markings, and the balance a bright shiny blue finish. The optics are clear and sharp. The mount retains 90% of its original blue finish with the tops of the scope rings having browned out somewhat and some old touch up blue on the top of the rear ring. A very nice looking U.S. Springfield Armory M1C sniper rifle.
