Exceptional World War I Winchester U.S. Model 1917 Bolt Action Rifle

This is an exceptional example of an original unaltered WWI Winchester Model 1917 bolt action rifle. These 1917 rifles were the primary U.S. Army and USMC service rifle used throughout WWI and many saw service during the early days of WWII, making original unaltered examples very scarce. The top of the receiver is marked "U.S./MODEL OF 1917/WINCHESTER/114108". The muzzle end of the barrel is correctly stamped with the Winchester markings of "W/US Ordnance Bomb proof/12-18". The left receiver rail is stamped with the ordnance bomb followed by circled five point star. All components have a deep, nearly commercial quality blue finish. Mounted with a smooth matching two piece walnut pistol grip stock and handguard with a stacking swivel and bayonet lug on the front band, "eagle head/504" stamped on the underside ahead of the floor plate, sling swivels and steel buttplate with cleaning kit compartment (kit not included). Comes with a "musketry rule," a M1918 slide rule which assisted the soldier in WWI to compute target distances and sight adjustment.

ConditionExcellent. The rifle retains 98% plus of the original blue finish. The receiver shows some discoloration from old dried grease, there is some minor thinning on the trigger guard and a small amount of light spotting on the floor plate. The wood is also excellent with a few minor pressure dents. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent.
