Description:

Winchester M1 carbine manufactured c. March 1945. This carbine has the distinctive late production features which include: (1) Type III barrel band with bayonet lug, (2) Type III stamped adjustable rear sight with "Shield H" mark (3) round bolt, (4) low-wood stock with oval sling cut-out, (5) four-rivet hand- guard, (5) Type IV slide marked "7160091", (6) Type III, unmarked, push safety and (7) Type V, magazine catch for 30-round magazine marked "M" on the face. The top of the barrel is stamped with a "W" behind the front sight followed by the Winchester "W/P" oval proof mark, The top of the receiver chamber is roll-stamped: "U.S. CARBINE/CAL..30 M1" in two lines and the receiver heel is roll-stamped "WINCHESTER/6513468" in two lines. The right side of the stock is stamped with the 1/2-inch Ordnance Corps escutcheon that was the final inspection mark on late production Winchester M1 carbines. The trigger housing and hammer have Winchester "W" markings. All of the components and visible component markings are correct for a late production Winchester M1 carbine in this serial number range. The barrel, receiver, trigger housing and slide all have the distinctive gray-green parkerized finish used on Winchester M1 carbines and M1 Garand rifles. The bolt and some trigger housing group pins have a blue/black Du-Lite finish. The carbine is complete with a late production olive drab web sling, parkerized oiler, 30-round magazine marked "SEY" on the spine and "BW" marked 15-round magazine. The Type III, bayonet lug, barrel band, adjustable rear sight, 30-round magazine catch and other components were introduced late in WWII and were fitted on relatively few Winchester carbines. These components were retrofitted on most M1 carbines that were arsenal over-hauled following WWII and the Korean Conflict and are common on M1 carbines issued following WWII. However, original, late WWII production, Winchester M1 carbines with these features are quite scarce and very desirable.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. This carbine retains 95% plus of the Winchester parkerized and Du-Lite finish. The only significant finish wear is cycling wear on the top of the bolt and light scratches on the top of the barrel from contact with the barrel band during disassembly. The other carbine components show very limited wear and retain nearly all of the original finish. The stock and handguard are in excellent plus condition. The Ordnance final inspection mark is extremely crisp. The stock has rebuild stamps or proof marks. This is an excellent example of a scarce, late production Winchester M1 carbine.
