Description:

This shotgun has "SAMUEL NOCK/REGENT STREET" on top of the patent breech and "*H*/NOCK" on the deeply set golden hallmark on the lock. Samuel Nock was Henry Nock's apprentice and nephew. He was active from about 1804 until 1851 and served as a gunmaker to Kings George III-IV, King William IV, and Queen Victoria. The business was located at Regent Street/Circus starting in 1823. The lock also has scroll engraving on the hammer, nose, and tumbler bridle, and the upper tang, trigger guard, and buttplate tang are also engraved. The wedge "staple" is marked "203," and a "crown/GP" proofmark is on the bottom of the barrel at the breech. There is a hole near the muzzle for a post front sight. The stock has silver wedge shields, a horn forend cap, and a checkered wrist.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains strong, period refurbished brown finish and displays beautiful twist patterns. There are a few bright scuffs and some slight pitting. The patent breech has minor flash pitting and gray-blue case colors. The silver has aged patina. The lock has mostly silvered case colors and some dark patina. Essentially all of the gold fill remains in the hallmark. The hammer is blue with minor pitting. The entry pipe and trigger guard display dark gray patina and mild pitting, and the buttplate has brown patina, mild pitting, and oxidation. The stock is fair, likely a replacement, and has the left half of the forend cap absent, cracks in the butt and left flat, crisp checkering, attractive figure, and glossy refinished varnish. The lock is mechanically excellent.
