Description:

Large numbers of commercially manufactured Pattern 1853 or "Three Band" Enfields were sold to the U.S. Ordnance Department and Confederacy during the Civil War; many were also sold throughout the British Empire. It features a Birmingham proofed barrel with standard sights, St. Edward's Crown and "1862" markings on the outside of the lock, "J.," "C.A" (Charles Anderson), and "1" markings on the backside of the lock; and a round "C. ANDERSON/GRADATIM/cross set over a crescent moon/BIRMINGHAM" and some other small markings on the stock.

Rating Definition:

Very good with thin original blue finish on the barrel and traces of case colors on the lock mixed with gray and brown patina and some minor pitting. The brass has aged patina throughout. The revarnished stock is good, remaining very fresh inside the lock inlet, and has small dents and scrapes. Mechanically fine.
