Description:

Though sometimes called "musketoons," their rifled bores make them more correctly short rifles or carbines. They were particularly suitable for artillery units, sappers, and cavalry. Commercial versions like this were imported and used during the American Civil War. The lock has St. Edward's Crown without the "VR" at the rear indicating this is a commercial firearm rather than one accepted for use by the British government. The front of the lock has "TOWER/1862," and the backside has "B.W." and "D.G D.G." The barrel has a bayonet lug for a saber bayonet, blade front sight, three leaf rear sight, and proofmarks. The underside of the stock has "B WOODWARD & SONS" and another proof.

Rating Definition:

Very good with traces of original finish and case color and otherwise dark brown and gray patina, light oxidation, some slight pitting, aged patina on the brass, hairline crack at the tail of the lock, a few chips, and general marks and dings. Mechanically fine.
