Description:

The Pattern 1853 rifle or "Three Band Enfield" was the main muzzle loading rifle of the Victorian Era British Army and was the second most widely used rifle during the American Civil War. The outside of the lock is marked with St. Edward's Crown over "TOWER" at the rear and "BARNETT/LONDON" at the center, and the inside has "J E" and "PRITCHETT." The lock has London private proofs. The stock has "J. NIX" stamped on the right just ahead of the butt. There are some other small markings throughout. It has mostly standard features.

Rating Definition:

Very good with mottled gray patina, light pitting, and small dings and marks. The stock is very good and has numerous mild dents and scrapes and a few small chips. One lock screw is a replacement. Mechanically fine.

Description:

Marked with "POTTS & HUNT/LONDON" on the outside of the lock, "P&H" on the underside of the lock, and British proofs on the barrel. Standard 1853 features.

Rating Definition:

Good with gray and brown patina and light pitting throughout, and heavier pitting at the breech. The brass has dark aged patina. There is a hole drilled off-center between the trigger guard tang screws. The rear sight is missing a the slider retention screw. The stock is fair with multiple repairs, including a long sliver spliced from the tip of the comb to the barrel tang, and several small scrapes and dents. Mechanically fine.
