Outstanding Documented Kansas City Shipped Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter

This is an outstanding example of a Third Model Winchester Model 1873 manufactured in 1909. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK" and is factory drilled and tapped for a tang-mounted sight. Dovetailed nickel silver blade front and adjustable rear buckhorn sporting sights. Blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever and buttplate. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying Cody Firearms Museum letter verifies the rifle configuration, 32 caliber, octagon barrel, that it was received in the warehouse on December 13, 1909 and it was shipped from the warehouse on January 10, 1910, to Richards & Conover Hardware Co. in Kansas City, Mo., on order number 243029. This is interesting Winchester letters rarely document where the rifle was shipped.

Rating definitionExcellent. The rifle retains 98% of the bright original blue finish and shows some light scratches on the receiver and minimal handling wear. There are some light scuff marks on the dust cover rail and the blue finish on the dust cover has thinned and developed a blue-brown patina. The loading gate has 98% plus of the original niter blue finish. Most of the fire blue finish is present on the bolt. The hammer, lever and buttplate have nearly 98% of the strong original case colors. The brass cartridge elevator has a untouched mellow patina. The markings are extremely sharp. The wood is excellent with most of the original varnish remaining showing some very minor dings and handling marks. This is an excellent example of a Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle.
