This 1830s-1840s era rifle has an illegible signature on the top of the barrel and an lockmaker's stamp on the lock. The patch box is reminiscent of the Lancaster School's daisy patch box from the earlier Golden Age of Kentucky rifles. The rifle also has standard Kentucky style fixed sights, a plain trigger, floral pattern lock, engraving on the long toe plate, a silver inlay with floral pattern and dash engraving on the left side of the butt, low cheek piece with molded edge, attractively shaped comb with Roman nose profile, and some basic molding along the forend of the highly figured maple stock.
