Description:

This massive shotgun was manufactured around 1905. Just 29 were manufactured in this grade, 8 gauge, and fitted with 34 inch twist barrels per "The Parker Story" on page 268. The 8 gauge fell from favor steadily after the turn of the century due to improvements in ammunition and was essentially forced fully into obsolescence by the ban on using 8 gauge shotguns for waterfowl and migratory birds in the U.S. starting in 1918. It features a single post front sight on a concave textured rib marked "PARKER BROS MAKERS. MERIDEN CONN. TWIST" towards the breech, matching numbers on the barrel lug, forearm hardware, and water table; shared extractor, patent markings on the forearm release and right side of the water table, "PARKER BROS." and light border engraving on the action, automatic tang safety, double triggers, and a multi-point checkered pistol grip stock and forearm with hard rubber Parker Bros. grip cap, silver initial shield, dog head logo checkered hard rubber buttplate, a 1 1/2 inch drop at the comb, 2 3/4 inch drop at the heel, and 14 1/4 inch length of pull.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 85% plus original brown finish on the barrels, attractive twist patterns, traces of case colors on the mostly silvered casehardened components, patches of brown patina, scattered minor marks, and slight oxidation. The barrels do not appear to have been shortened despite their unusual length. The wood is also very good and has crisp checkering, minor edge wear, scattered scratches and dings, and a small amount of white paint on the right at the butt and just behind the grip. The action is mechanically excellent, and the markings remain crisp.
