Description:

Lefever Arms Company manufactured fine shotguns in Syracuse, New York, from 1883 until 1916. Daniel Lefever was the first to introduce a truly automatically cocking hammerless shotgun. This shotgun was manufactured around the late 1880s and features full chokes, single post/bead front sight on the "LEFEVER ARMS CO. MAKERS & PATENTERS SYRACUSE. N.Y." marked concave rib, 2 7/8 inch chambers with a shared extractor, matching numbered barrels, forearm, water table and lower tang; "F" grade marking on the bottom of the barrels and the water table, hand scratched "MA" markings in concealed areas, "LEFEVER ARMS CO.," single floral bursts, and border engraving on the detachable locks which have cocked indicators; "PAT. 1876. 1880. 1885." ahead of the trigger guard, automatic tang safety, checkered forearm with horn tip, and a checkered pistol grip buttstock with hard rubber grip cap, horn buttplate, 1 3/4 inch drop at comb, 2 7/8 inch drop at heel, and a 14 inch length of pull.

Rating Definition:

Fine with attractive Damascus twist patterns visible along the barrels, especially on the rib, mild fading on the sides above the forearm, mostly a mix of gray and light brown patina, patches of vibrant original case colors especially prominent on the locks and protected areas, silvering out in most other areas, scattered light spotting, and a few minor marks. The wood is very good and has crisp checkering, minor dings and marks, and smooth oil finish, and the buttplate has mild rub wear. The shotgun remains mechanically excellent and has crisp markings. A very hard to find, original Lefever shotgun.
