Description:

Manufactured in 1881. The table on page 278 of "The Parker Story" by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote, lists only seven guns manufactured in this chambering, barrel length, and barrel steel type, making this one of the rarest Parker doubles a person could find. Single steel bead sight on the matte solid rib barrels marked "PARKER BROS. MAKERS.MERIDEN CONN. DAMASCUS STEEL". The chambers measure approximately 3 inches and there is a single extractor. The frame, side plates, hammers and tangs feature tight scroll engraving with segmented line borders, and a scene of two pheasants on the underside. Fitted with a checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with a silver initial shield at the top of the wrist, silver oval on the grip end, and a smooth steel buttplate. The stock measurements and weight are: drop at comb 2 1/4 inches; drop at heel 3 inches; length of pull 14 inches; weight 12 Lbs 4 Oz.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 50% original brown finish remains on the barrels with good visible Damascus patterning under an applied layer of protective varnish. Displaying a few scattered nicks and dings, crisp engraving and markings on the side plates, and a gray/brown patina under the varnish on the frame. The wood is fine as repaired at the left side of the wrist with a visible break from the upper tang to the tail of the lock, small chip missing on the left side of the forearm, small indentations overall, and worn checkering. Mechanically very good.
