Description:

This is very good example of a fairly scarce Yugoslavian Type 56 submachine gun chambered in the Russian 7.62x25 pistol cartridge. This was an indigenous designed submachine gun intended to capitalize on the standard Russian pistol round in use by the Warsaw Pact countries. This design appears to be an updated/improved copy of the German MP-40 in that is uses a round receiver tube, fixed front and two position rear sights, a plastic receiver cover with a stamped pistol grip assembly and a twin bar folding stock. Blow-back operated open bolt with a fixed firing pin. The top of the receiver is stamped with the large Communist Yugoslavian crest over "M-56/E-88359". Many of the parts have a 6 or 7 digit part numbers stamped on them. The right side of the barrel is marked "ZASTAVA YUGOSLAVIA 7.62/INTER AMERICAN SACTO. CA."

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 70% of the blue finish remaining overall having turned a plum brown patina on all the metal surfaces with more wear and color loss on the upper receiver/exposed barrel areas. The black plastic outer receiver cover is in very fine condition. NOTE: This weapon is a restricted, National Firearms Act (NFA) Class 3, Fully Automatic Weapon, that is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. This weapon is currently registered as being "LIMITED TO USE AS A SALES SAMPLE (Pre-86)" and as such can only be purchased by an FFL, with a Class 2 or Class 3 SOT License.
