Description:

This rifle utilizes a heavy barrel more commonly used on the Great Plains and American West. The lock has "TRUITT BROTHERS & CO." marked at the bottom and some basic scrollwork. Truitt Brothers & Co. operated as importers and hardware merchants from 1847-61 in Philadelphia and then became Truitt & Co. The rifle also features blade and notch sights, 15 German silver inlays, an ornate patch box, shallow cheekpiece, and double set triggers.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with a primarily dark brown patina, some traces of original blue finish on the barrel, moderate flash pitting near the breech, aged patina on the brass, and scattered mild marks. The stock is also very good and has a spliced repair on the right side of the forend, attractive false striping, some chipping around the lock inlet, flash wear, and a few minor cracks (forend and front and rear of the lock). Mechanically functions, but the hammer is a little loose.
