Description:

This is an attractive example of a professionally restored G-41(M) rifle that was originally manufactured by the Mauser factory in 1942. This style of rifle was produced by the Mauser factory in response to a request by the German Weapons office in 1941 which stipulated that the rifle had to be a semi-automatic rifle but to be activated or cock in the style of the 98K bolt action rifle. Consequently these rifles do not have the traditional sliding cocking handle on the right side of the receiver, but instead use the standard 98K style bolt handle to initially cock the rifle. These rifles employ the early "bang gas trap" gas system that utilizes a muzzle cone on the end of the barrel to trap gas and cycle the rifle. It is initially cocked like a 98K rifle, then during the cycling function this 98K style bolt handle/assembly is disengaged and the rifle functions from gas that is trapped in the muzzle cone which cycles an operating rod located under the barrel. The actual bolt is constructed in two pieces with a rotating bolt head with dual locking lugs, and a machined top cover. The cylindrical receiver is marked on top, with the small "Eagle 135" proof over "G-41(M) over 1942" with the actual serial number of the rifle stamped on the left side of the integral rear sight base. It has the all machined trigger guard, machined extended ten round box magazine and machined barrel bands. It is fitted with WWII style walnut stock with cupped steel butt plate and short walnut top handguard. The left side of the butt stock is stamped with an "Eagle WaA135" Waffenamt proof with a smaller one on the underside in the pistol grip area. Directly behind the pistol grip it is stamped with the serial number. All visible serial numbers are matching. These are very rare rifles today as only 20,000 are estimated to have been made, and many saw considerable use throughout the war and were very time consuming and complicated to manufacture as the parts were machined and hand fitted with numerous parts used through out the rifle, especially in the gas system and receiver itself.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored. 98% blue finish remains with some very light edge wear on the replacement gas cone (number 24), very clear markings, and sharp edges. The replacement stock is also very fine with very crisp markings, attractive color, sharp edges, and cleaned moderate pitting on the buttplate. Mechanically excellent. The G.41 (M) is a scarce rifle in its own right, certainly so in this attractive professionally restored condition.
